Mine is a lot rougher since it's almost entirely made from salvaged material, bikes from the garbage etc. Later on I found a quiet but powerful electric motor and drove the flywheel with it using a round belt I made out of rope from twisted bicycle inner tubes. Also the gouge I'm using is an Oland tool that uses concrete nails as hardened steel cutting tips. This is an absurdly cost effective tool. The SoniCrafter by Rockwell Tools is excellent for sawing, sanding, scraping, cutting, rasping and removing grout. First Impression: When I took this tool out of the box it looked and felt like a quality tool. I like the rubber grip casing on the tool and it's sturdy metal housing feels durable. The on /off switch was placed well on top of the tool accommodating left or right handed operators. The ten foot power cord is greatly appreciated as is the variable speed. I found myself starting a cut in a lower speed and once I had a scored line, I increased the speed to full speed and finished the cut. I found the operating manual limited in describing how to use the accessories. Testing the SoniCrafter in the field: I've been using this tool for a few weeks now and have some practical input on it that you may find interesting. I found the SoniCrafter very useful when splicing in exterior house trim like window sills, corner boards, sofit cuts and water table as seen below. Update: on 9-4-10--see "NEW COMMENT" just below this original statement. ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Some bonehead poured concrete in a wiindow well without removing the wooden window casing--which allowed a path for water to enter. I am unsure whether I need to cut the entire section out or not. If I do cut the entire section out I am unsure which tools to use. A local tool rental company has a concrete saw that will cut 8 inches deep (inside wall cut) but the concrete at the window well area itself must be 20 inches deep. I could jackhammer the window well area from the outside but I am concerned that I might crack the 1904 foundation wall surrounding the area. So I am unsure how to proceed but would like to do it myself, if possible. Any one have ideas? Thanks in advance. NEW COMMENT on 9-4-10: I've tentatively decided to jackhammer the entire outside and inside (window well) concrete and re-pour that section of the wall--only about 2 ft X 3 ft. I'll use bonding product between the old and new concrete, drilll insome rebar, and treat the outside with a coating for extra protection. The reason for deciding to jackhammer the entire filled-in window well came after watering it with a sprinkler and seeing that water pools at the big mass of concrete--which then seeps in the edges where the new concrete was not bonded well to the old concrete.
